A diabetic foot ulcer is an open sore or wound that occurs in approximately 15 percent of patients with diabetes. It is commonly located on the bottom of the foot. People who are at high risks for developing foot ulcer includes,
- People who use Insulin
- Diabetes-related Kidney
- Neuropathy
- People with Vascular disease
- Uncontrolled blood sugar
Diabetic Foot Treatments
When caught early, foot ulcers are treatable. Diabetic foot ulcers can take several weeks to heal. Ulcers may take longer to heal if your blood sugar is high and if constant pressure is applied to the ulcer. Some of the medical treatment for diabetic foot include,
- Dressings containing silver or silver sulphadiazine cream
- Iodine (either povidone or cadexomer)
- Medical grade honey in ointment or gel form
